In the battle against evil, we conduct spiritual warfare against very real and very powerful entities. We know that spirits exist, and therefore we know that many people can be afflicted with "hauntings". Not necessarily in the hollywierd sort of way, but in a very real and often terrifying way.
It is VERY IMPORTANT that you understand right here and now that you must NEVER EVER TRY TO CONTACT A SPIRIT NOR SHOULD YOU EVER TRY TO PERFORM AN EXORCISM WITHOUT PROPER TRAINING!! Do not talk to the entity, or address it in any way. If you speak to a spirit, you may indeed be speaking to a Demon that is posing as a spirit and you could find yourself in a whole bunch of trouble real fast. Also, please remember that speaking to spirits leads one to some terrible temptations such as divination, and a multitude of other practices known as sorcery.
You have either chosen this page because you are curious about what I have to say here, or because you or someone you know is having trouble with hauntings. Let me first say that this is serious business and in the case of Demonic presence you will NEED qualified clergy. If you have wandered to this page because you are curious, it's probably difficult for you to understand just how serious this is. If you have come here because you are having difficulty, you know exactly how serious this is and are looking for immediate help.
There are many varieties that can be encountered when dealing with hauntings. The most desired of the lot are the non-violent, non-hostile type. This folks, is the one to have if you are going to be haunted. All the same, you must prepare your home for the removal of the spirit. First analyze your lifestyle and see what you are doing that may have invited such activity into your home. If you have been living an unclean life, or have increased sinful activity you must cease this immediately and repent. You must return your home to a Pious Christian State. Or if evil activity has been allowed to happen in the home this may be beyond your control or not of your doing.
The next thing that has to be realized is that God has not given humans permission or the authority to command spirits. Sorcerers command spirits with the Devil's help and this often gets them into trouble as it is. God has not given humans permission or authority to command any type of spirit what so ever therefore, you must put out of your head any Hollywood representation of pointing bibles at ghosts and shouting "I command you to leave this house!". Commanding a spirit is assuming the powers of God and is blasphemy, Priests during a rite of Exorcism speak very little to the demon(s) and while they do command they do so in a specific way, at a specific time during the ritual, and with a series of fortified prayers. Quite honestly, if you are already having trouble with a haunting, you seriously don't want to be blaspheming at the same time. You should in fact, not try to communicate with this spirit at all - I may have mentioned that once or twice, that is probably because it is of VITAL IMPORTANCE!!!
So, having said all that, you now find yourself asking "well, if I can't command it, how do I make it go away?". That is a pretty simple answer. Remember when you were a child, and you laid in bed during a thunderstorm with your head covered up, allowing only a small breathing hole and you prayed to God that the Thunderstorm move away quickly? (or was that just me who did that?!) Well the same basic concept applies here. We are praying to GOD the Father Almighty, through the redeeming Blood of his Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit for THEIR ASSISTANCE. We pray to God for assistance during these times. We appeal to Angels and Archangels to assist us in ridding our homes of these spirits. We alone, cannot remove the spirits.
Now that we have all that said, I will provide you with some tried and true prayers that we know from experience will help with a haunting. Some other things that will help you during the process are some blessed incense burning - carry it from room to room with you as you pray (you can get blessed incense from Greek Orthodox Monasteries, or You can have a priest bless it. You can also use Holy Water and sprinkle it throughout the house as you go from room to room praying. A large (not used before!) paint brush works perfect for sprinkling the holy water from room to room. Icons or Statuary of things like St. Michael or St. Raphael are good but not always a first choice. Blessed St. Benedict medals have been reported to work well also.
Most glorious prince of the Heavenly Armies, Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in "our battle against principalities and powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in high places" (Ephesians 6:12). Come to the assistance of men whom God has created to His likeness and whom He has redeemed at a great price form the tyranny of the Devil. Holy Church venerates thee as her guardian and protector; to thee, the Lord has entrusted the souls of the redeemed to be led into heaven. Pray, therefore, the God of Peace to crush Satan beneath our feet that he may no longer retain men captive and do injury to the Church. Offer our prayers to the Most High, that without delay they may draw His mercy down upon us; take hold of the dragon, "the old serpent, which is the Devil and Satan"; bind him and cast him into the bottomless pit, "so that he may no longer seduce the nations" (Revelation 20:3). In the Name of Jesus Christ, our God and Lord, strengthened by the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin Many, Mother of God, of Blessed Michael the Archangel, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul and all the Saints, we confidently undertake to repulse the attacks and deceits of the Devil. "Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered; let those who hate Him flee before Him. As smoke is driven away, so drive them away; as wax melts before the fire, so the wicked perish at the presence of God" (Psalm 68). P. Behold the Cross of the Lord, flee bands of enemies. R. He has conquered, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the offspring of David. P. May Thy mercy, Lord, descend upon us. R. As great as our hope in Thee. When the + is encountered make the sign of the cross. We drive you from us, whoever you may be, every unclean spirit, all satanic powers, all infernal invaders, all wicked legions, assemblies and sects; in the Name and by the power of Our Lord Jesus Christ, + may you be snatched away and driven from the Church of God and from the souls made to the image and likeness of God and redeemed by the Precious Blood of the Divine Lamb. + Most cunning serpent, you shall no more dare to deceive the human race, persecute the Church, torment God's elect and sift them as what. + The Most High God commands you. + He with whom, in your great insolence, you still claim to be equal, "He who wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth" (I Timothy 2:4) God the Father commands you. + Christ, God's Word made flesh, commands you. + He who to save our race outdone through your envy, "humbled Himself, becoming obedient even unto death" (Philippians 2:8); He who has built His Church on the firm rock and declared that the gates of hell shall not prevail against Her, because He will dwell with Her "all days, even to the end of the world" (Matthew 28:20). The sacred Sign of the Cross commands you, + as does also the power of the mysteries of the Christian faith. + The glorious Mother of God, the Virgin Mary, commands you. + She who by her humility and from the first moment of her Immaculate Conception, crushed your proud head. The faith of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul and of the other Apostles commands you. + The blood of the Martyrs and the pious intercession of all the Saints command you. + Thus, cursed dragon, and you, diabolical legions, we adjure you by the living God, + by the true God, + by the holy God, + by the God "who so loved the world that He gave up His only Son, that every soul believing in Him might not perish but have life everlasting" (john 3:16); stop deceiving human creatures and pouring out to them the poison of eternal damnation; stop harming the Church and hindering her liberty. Be gone Satan, inventor and master of all deceit, enemy of man's salvation. Give place to Christ in whom you have found none of your works; give place to the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church acquired by Christ at the price of His Blood. Stoop beneath the all-powerful Hand of God; tremble and flee when we invoke the Holy and terrible Name of Jesus, this Name which causes hell to tremble, this Name to which the Virtues, Powers and Dominations of Heaven are humbly submissive, this Name which the Cherubim and Seraphim praise unceasingly repeating: Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God of Armies. P. O Lord, hear my prayer. R. And let my cry come unto thee. P. May the Lord be with thee. R. And with thy spirit. P. Let us pray. God of Heaven, God of Earth, God of Angels, God of Archangels, God of Patriarchs, God of Prophets, God of Apostles, God of Martyrs, God of Confessors, God of Virgins, God who has power to give life after death and rest after work, because there is no other God than Thee, and there can be no other, for Thou art the Creator of all things, visible and invisible, of whose reign there shall be no end, we humbly prostrate ourselves before Thy glorious Majesty and we beseech Thee to deliver us by Thy power form all the tyranny of the infernal spirits, from their snares, their lies and their furious wickedness; deign, o Lord, to grant us Thy powerful protection and to keep us safe and sound. We beseech Thee through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. From the snares of the devil, deliver us, o Lord. That Thy Church may serve Thee in peace and liberty, we beseech Thee to hear us. That Thou may crush down all enemies of Thy Church, we beseech Thee to hear us. Holy water is sprinkled in the place where we may be. A priest or laity sprinkles holy water in the sign of the cross. |
I claim the full victory that my Lord Jesus Christ won on the cross for me. Having disarmed the Powers and the Authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross His victory for me is my victory. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I renounce all the workings of Satan in my life in all it's forms, whether brought into my life by my actions, or by others. I break all attachments, ground, curses, spells and rights Satan may have in my life whether such ground was gained through my actions or the actions of others. Strengthened by the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, of the Blessed Archangel Michael, the Apostles Peter and Paul, and all of the Saints and Angels in heaven; and powerful in the Holy Authority of the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ - I ask you Lord, to command Satan and all his minions, whomever they may be, to get out of my life and stay out. With that Authority, I now take back the ground in my life gained by Satan, through my sins. I reclaim this ground and my Life for Christ Jesus, I now dedicate myself to the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for it is to him alone I belong!
